The movie begins on Ocean Drive in Miami, Florida. A flashmob, later identified as ‘The Mob,’ shuts down Ocean Drive by cutting off the streets with retro convertibles and dancing on cars to music blasted by DJ Penelope . A few hours later,Sean, Eddy, and Jaso, the leaders of the Mob, watch their latest flashmob air on the news in a restaurant kitchen where they work. A few complain about their public disturbance, while others praise it. After they get off work, they sneak into the Dimont Hotel’s beach club, claiming to be guests, not employees.

Meanwhile, across the club at the bar, Emily tries to get the waiter’s attention, but ends up preparing her own beer. Sean, who is immediately smitten by her, asks for a beer. Emily instead heads down to the beach to dance, resulting in a dance battle between the two, but ending when Emily suddenly runs off.

The next day, Emily and her dad Bill Anderson argue over breakfast at the Dimont Hotel. Sean, their waiter, immediately recognizes her, but Emily spills her orange juice in an attempt to distract Sean. In an angry fit, Emily storms off, and Sean immediately follows her into the hotel’s ballroom, where Emily begins a fast contemporary dance, oblivious to Sean’s presence. After Emily notices Sean and warms up to him, she explains to him that she’s trying to nail an audition for the prestigious Winwood Dance Academy. Sean advises her to incorporate faster, more interesting moves, but Emily declines, saying that there are rules. Sean, in turn, tells her to break the rules, giving her an address and telling her to come there. Emily does and finds herself at the Miami Museum of Fine Arts, where the paintings and statues come to life, which is work of the Mob. By telling her to attend, Sean basically reveals to her his participation in the Mob.

The next day, Emily persuades Sean to let her take part in their next Mob, which is scheduled to hit a restaurant the following week. Eddy immediately dislikes Emily, giving her the lead to test her. The flashmob goes well and Eddy admits that Emily did great. Emily and Sean then sneak onto a boat Sean had reserved for himself to sail down the river. There, they kiss and sleep on the boat until morning, when they hurry back to Sean’s uncle’s bar, Ricky’s. Ricky reveals to them that Emily’s dad, a building tycoon, is planning to develop the slums, destroying Ricky’s bar, Sean’s home, and many other things.

Sean, Emily, Eddy, and Penelope then lead the Mob in various protest Mobs. Eddy finds out that Emily is Bill’s daughter, and reveals to Bill that Emily is a part of the Mob. This ruins relationships for Emily with Sean, Eddy, Bill, and the rest of the Mob. Emily had rehearsed her Winwood audition piece as a duet with Sean. Now that she and Sean are estranged, she no longer has him as a dance partner. Instead, she tries to adapt the piece, dancing it as a solo performance. The result falls flat and she fails her audition for Winwood.

After Eddy and Sean are sent to jail for being caught in the flashmob, Ricky bails them out and Eddy and Sean make up. They then Mob the development public announcement, with the help of past Step Up characters including Moose. Bill decides to build up the community rather than tear it down. Sean and Emily kiss passionately and make up, and Eddy and Sean makes a deal with the owner of the marketing firm that represents Nike for the Mob to dance in their commercials.

The story begins in traditional video style, as several of the film’s characters are recorded and asked a series of questions about why they dance. The film then cuts to Moose and Camille who attend New  York  University. Moose is majoring in electrical  engineering after promising his father that he would not dance anymore. While touring the campus, he sees a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks worn by Luke Katcher . Moose follows the shoes and then accidentally stumbles upon a dance battle, where he beats Kid Darkness  from the dancing crew “House of Samurai”. Luke takes him back to his place, an old warehouse converted into a club. Luke shows Moose the House of Pirates, his dance crew, where he later teams up with them to compete in the World Jam dance contest against their rivals, the House of Samurai dance crew. But then, Jacob, a member of House of Pirates, informs Luke that the warehouse will be put up for auction if the overdue rents are not made.

Luke meets a girl named Natalie at his club and quickly takes notice of her dancing abilities, enlisting her to become part of his crew. However, he is unaware of Natalie’s true motives.

Moose finds his time to be increasingly tight as he has to choose between his studies and dance frequently, including once when his test clashes with a dance competition. He decides to go for the test, but upon seeing the test paper and receiving a message from Luke, he rushes to the competition in the nick of time.

Luke and Natalie become increasingly close as the movie progresses, sharing many intimate moments. Luke explains his true intentions with his recordings and dance interviews. Yet, Natalie is hiding the fact that her brother is Julien the leader of the House of Samurai, and lies about everything but the love connection between her and Luke.

Natalie faces a hard decision torn between her love and her family. She confronts Luke and asks what happened with him and Julien. To her surprise, he says that Julien was a member of the House of Pirates. He had a gambling problem and he once put a wager against the Pirates and then threw away a battle, so the Pirates kicked him out. After arguing with Julien, she decides to leave Luke. Julien then uses her phone to invite Luke for her birthday party. Luke asks Moose to attend the party with him, as he wants a friend with him, but because they have no invitation, they are not permitted to enter. They find a way to get in, Luke sees Natalie on the dance floor and they dance tango. While they are having an intimate moment, Julien takes the chance to appear and reveals Natalie’s identity. Luke is angry with Natalie. When Luke arrives back at the warehouse, he finds it is foreclosed. Angry at himself for not being a better leader, he exclaims that the House of Pirates is over, and the crew members go their separate ways.

Meanwhile, Moose and Camille are best friends but Moose does not seem to see that Camille is in love with him. The two fall out during the film because Moose lies to Camille about dancing and she feels like he cannot talk to her anymore. Camille feels that Moose does not have time for her anymore and tells him she misses him and feels like he does not miss her at all. Moose tells Camille that he misses dancing but misses her more and that she is his best friend in the whole world.

The two make up on NYC streets by dancing to a remix of Fred  Astaire  and Ginger  Rogers. Camille tells Moose that he can never give up dancing as he was born to do it. Moose then helps out Luke by bringing the House of Pirates back together, and giving him additional members for his crew including Camille.

Natalie helps Luke and the Pirates to win the World Jam at the end with the routine they had practiced in the past. She invites him to come with her to California, which he does at the end of the film, meeting her at the train station and kissing her just as Moose kisses Camille. Before leaving for California with Natalie, Luke gives Moose a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks which he saw at the beginning of the film, symbolizing that he has been left in charge of the group. The film ends with Moose saying “Let’s party, people!” to the crew.

In Baltimore,Mayland, Andie West  pursues her big dream of becoming a street dancer. Following the death of her mother to cancer, Andie lives with her mother’s best friend, Sarah, but in reality, Andie feels like she does not belong anywhere. Although she is doing poorly at school, it is her dream for dancing that brings something special into her life. She trains with her dance crew, the “410” , to keep the title of the illegal competition, ‘The Streets.’ Sarah is aware of the crime and harassment by the 410, and after an argument with Andie, she decides to send her to live with her Aunt Alice in Texas, but Andie, fed-up with Sarah’s arguments, runs away.

Tyler  is like a big brother to Andie. Tyler is first seen when he meets Andie at a local dance club, The Dragon. He tries to persuade Andie to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts (MSA), where Andie has to compete for a place, thinking it will help her life as it did his. Tyler decides to battle her for it. Tyler wins the battle and the two head back to Andie’s house where Tyler asks Sarah to let her join MSA. Sarah initially refuses, but Tyler claims she agreed and leaves Andie to audition at MSA while he goes on tour with Nora. Chase Collins  persuades the school director (his brother) Blake to recruit Andie after seeing her audition. When the 410 learn about Andie’s involvement at MSA, they kick her out. Andie and Chase form a new crew with help from many people Chase knows at the school, all of not accepted as who they are, including Andie’s new friend Moose. Chase has a copied key to the studio and the crew secretly practices their routine late at night when the school is empty. They perform at the local dance club, but are rejected and kicked out. Andie’s friend Missy Serrano  joins the crew after going out of the 410 following the event, as she is disgusted by the crowd’s reaction. Missy tells the crew that the only way to enter The Streets is to first pull a prank and post it on the Internet to show that the crew is entering the competition. Wanting revenge for being humiliated before, Chase decides that their prank will be to make a fool out of Tuck, the leader of the 410.

The crew goes to a family barbecue at Missy’s house. Sophie , tags along. She begins to develop a crush on Moose after salsa  dancing with  him.

The 410 doesn’t like the fact that they have a new crew to compete with so they warn Andie’s group to stay out of The Streets or there will be consequences. When Tuck finds Chase, he assaults him for his prank and warns him to stay away from The Streets and Andie. Chase comes into school the next day badly bruised and hurt. On top of that, the dance studio has been trashed by the 410 the previous night. Director Collins forbids the students from the school to be involved in illegal competitions and expels Andie from MSA for her involvement with the Streets competition after a tip-off from Sophie, but Andie denies the involvement of her other members. After she leaves, Chase admits his involvement in the Streets and tries to persuade Director Collins to let Andie back in, but Director Collins refuses as he is too busy with the fundraiser.

When Sarah hears the news of Andie’s expulsion, Andie tries to explain, but Sarah refuses to listen, telling her that she has had enough of her behavior and that Andie now must go to live with her two aunts in Texas. Just when Andie is packing her bags to leave, she receives a text message from Missy that The Streets is on that night – the same night as the MSA fundraiser. Along with Andie, her whole crew gets the text message. They decide to ditch the MSA fundraiser and instead compete in The Streets. When Sarah hears about what Andie did to protect her crew, allows Andie to continue living with her and lets her compete at The Streets with her crew. Chase also leaves the fundraiser hoping to win back Andie.

When Collins notices that his students are gone, he questions Sophie. Moose tells him that he is in the crew and where they are. Moose takes both Collins and Sophie to the place; they are just in time for the crew’s performance. The director sees them and he realizes that The Streets he was hearing and thinking about, is in fact a legitimate form of artistic expression. He accepts Andie into MSA again and tells Moose that he was in the wrong department.

To Moose’s surprise, he gets kissed by Sophie. With Andie’s crew being supportive friends and her education now secured, the film finds its optimistic ending – a passionate kiss between Andie and Chase.

As Nora’s bond with Tyler grows, one day, she takes him to a special spot on the waterfront, near a company for which her late father used to work, revealing that this is where she first envisioned her routine. She confesses to Tyler that she had always imagined it as an ensemble dance, rather than a duet. Tyler becomes inspired to help her dream come true and begins recruiting younger dancers from the school to perform in her number. Brett signs a recording deal with a company, but in doing so, betrays his friend, Miles, to get the opportunity. Disgusted by his betrayal, Nora breaks up with Brett. Meanwhile, Tyler continues to attempt a balance between his new goals, his new friends, and nurturing a troubled relationship with his old ones.Following a party, brothers Mac  and Skinny Carter , with their friend Tyler Gage , break into the Maryland School of Arts and trash the school’s theatre, damaging many of the props. When a security guard appears, Tyler helps the two escape, accepting full blame for the vandalism himself. He is sentenced to 200 hours of community service, which is to be served at the school. While working, he peers in on a dance class and meets Nora Clark , a student preparing for her “senior showcase”, an audition performance which could determine whether or not she is offered a job within any one of the professional dance companies to attend the performance. When Mac and Skinny pay Tyler a visit on the school’s lot, Nora curiously watches from a window as Tyler dances with his friends, mockingly incorporating a mashup of break-dance and the ballet moves he has recently observed. When Nora’s dance partner, Andrew, sprains an ankle, Nora finds herself unexpectedly without a partner for her routine. Auditioning some sophomore students to replace him, she decides that none meet her expectations. Tyler offers to help, but Nora refuses. After demonstrating that he can handle the routine however, Nora reconsiders and convinces Director Gordon  to allow Tyler to rehearse with her. During their initial practice session, Tyler is antagonistic toward Nora as well as her boyfriend, Brett , both of whom respond with haughty attitudes. As they continue to rehearse, Nora and Tyler grow closer, each teaching the other about their respective styles of dance. Tyler also befriends a musician at the school named Miles , who has a crush on Nora’s friend, Lucy .

Tyler  asks Director Gordon if she will let him attend the school, and she advises that he must prove to her that he deserves a chance. Upon hearing this from Tyler, Nora suggests that the showcase could also be used as his entrance audition. After dancing together at a club where Lucy and Miles perform, Nora and Tyler finally move forward with a romantic relationship. Rehearsals continue as normal, until Andrew returns seemingly healed from his injury. Tyler feels that he is no longer needed in the routine, and angrily accuses Nora of treating him the same way her ex-boyfriend treated Miles. He leaves the group and returns to janitorial work, his initial community service at the school. In the course of the training, Nora has been incorporating many of Tyler’s suggestions for the routine, and finds that the new choreography is now much too difficult for the original partner to perform. Whilst in one of their practice sessions, Andrew falls over and, realizing he can not cope with the dance, resigns himself from the routine, and Nora is, once again, left without a partner. Crushed, she questions her efforts and considers abandoning her dance career, but receives an emotional confession and strong encouragement from her mother, who once opposed her future in dance. Nora transforms the choreography into a solo piece.

Later, Skinny is fatally shot after stealing a car, making Mac and Tyler realize that they need to make better choices in their lives. Tyler surprises Nora by showing up, last minute, at the evening of the showcase. He tries to persuade Nora to let him perform with her, and to forgive him for overreacting. She initially declines, but suddenly changes her mind as Tyler wishes her good luck and walks away. When the curtain opens, Tyler, Nora, and the ensemble of students perform their original choreography against Miles’ latest musical score. After the performance, Director Gordon is beaming and the crowd is blown away.

Backstage, when a proud Director Gordon tells a fellow director from a professional dance company hoping to sign Nora that Tyler is a “transfer student”, Nora is overwhelmed and embraces Tyler. She repeats advice given to him at their first rehearsal together, and the two share a kiss.

Viola Hastings  is a high school soccer player at Cornwall, which has just cut its girls’ soccer team. After her request to join the boys team is refused by the sexist coach, she finds a way to play for Cornwall’s rival, Ilyria, which is a boarding  school. Viola’s twin brother, Sebastian , is supposed to enter Ilyria as a new student, and since he is instead going to a contest in London with his fledgling band, Sebastian asks Viola to cover for him by telling the school that he is sick and making each of their parents  think that he is staying with the other.

Viola instead decides to pass herself off as Sebastian and join the boys’ soccer team at Illyria. She hopes to beat the Cornwall team and humiliate her cocky ex-boyfriend, Justin , who plays for the rival team. With the help of her stylist friend Paul and his girlfriends, Viola becomes the quirky “Sebastian”.

At Illyria, Viola’s roommate is Duke Orsino  a good-looking striker on the soccer team. Tryouts see Viola assigned to second string, much to her dismay. Meanwhile, “Sebastian’s” lab partner, Olivia develops a crush on him, which frustrates Duke, who likes Olivia. In exchange for “Sebastian’s” help in getting Olivia’s attention, Duke agrees to put in extra soccer practice time with him. Coach Dinklage eventually moves “Sebastian” up to first string, and he is delighted.

“Sebastian” is reminded, by a message from his mother, about the Junior League carnival that the siblings promised to attend. Due to the fact that Duke’s mother is also a part of the Junior League, he must go as well. “Sebastian” is forced to switch between herself  and Sebastian the whole time, while trying to avoid her mother and Monique, Sebastian’s ex-girlfriend, so that she is not discovered as impersonating her brother. Viola is trying to run around and do both her and her brother’s jobs at the carnival. Duke misses his chance with Olivia when her shift is up at the kissing booth. He is not disappointed by her replacement, who turns out to be “Sebastian’s” sister, Viola. Duke and Viola meet for the first time and exchange their kiss at the kissing booth, only to be interrupted by Viola’s ex-boyfriend, Justin. Duke and Justin get into a fight and decide they will finish the battle on the soccer field. Duke realizes he might be crushing not only on Olivia, but on Viola as well.

Olivia goes on a date with Duke to make “Sebastian” jealous, remaining far more interested in him than in Duke. Encouraged by Viola, she decides to go directly to Sebastian and tell him how she feels.

The plot becomes complicated when the real Sebastian returns from London a day early. When he arrives at Illyria, Olivia runs up and kisses him. Duke, seeing this, believes his roommate has betrayed him and after arguing with “Sebastian” kicks him out. Viola stays in Eunice’s room and oversleeps, causing the real Sebastian to wind up on the pitch playing in what should be his sister’s spot in the next day’s much-anticipated game against Cornwall. Principal Gold , who has been told of Viola’s impersonating Sebastian by Malcolm and Sebastian’s ex-girlfriend, Monique, he halts the game and informs the crowd that Sebastian is a girl. The real Sebastian being present instead, he proves himself to be male by pulling down his shorts and exposing his genitals. At half-time, Viola explains the situation to Sebastian and they switch places again.

Later on in the game Viola explains that she has been impersonating her brother, finally convincing Duke and everyone else by showing them her breasts. The coach agrees to let Viola keep playing anyway, sternly informing the Cornwall coach that Illyria doesn’t discriminate based on gender and he calls out the coach for his sexist ways. Illyria wins the game on a penalty kick when Viola scores a goal, finally humiliating Justin and the rest of the Cornwall boys.

Everyone at Illyria celebrates their victory over Cornwall, except for Duke who is hurt at Viola’s deception. She invites Duke to her debutante ball, but she leaves as he doesn’t show. Whilst in the garden, Duke turns up and they head to the debutante ball, where they are introduced, come on stage, and kiss. Monique and Justin come on stage together followed by Olivia and Sebastian. At the end of the film, Viola and Duke are shown playing on the soccer team of Ilyria a year later, both on the first string.

One day the streetdance movie genre will evolve and mature to the extent that every single film does not need to climax in a competition. That day has not yet dawned, but Streetdance 2 has brash energy; it does not neglect to do what it says on the tin and the lack of realism is no problem. Falk Hentschel is Ash, a guy with something to prove, having embarrassed himself in a confrontation with a streetdance crew hubristically named Invincible. So he assembles a super-cool crew of his own from all over Europe to take them on again, and incidentally falls for Eva (Sofia Boutella), his most luscious signing. And after some ups and downs … well, there are no great surprises, although they need some new choreographical ideas for those various poses of incredulous scorn and contempt while the opponents are dancing.

In inner city London, a street  dance crew is on the verge of breaking up after its leader, Jay , leaves the group unexpectedly. The group loses the use of their rehearsal space, forcing them to try to raise money or practice in other locations. Eventually they secure a space in a ballet school, on the condition that they include five ballet dancers in their routine. At first, they struggle to get along, but they all become friends in the end.

One of the teachers at the ballet school, Helena , takes Carly  to a ballet where she starts getting ideas for their routine. When she arrives home, Carly finds Jay waiting for her and the two spend the night having sex. During a dance battle in a club the next night, the team learn that Jay has betrayed the team by joining The Surge, a rival crew. Jay brags about his sex with Carly and Tomas , a ballet dancer, punches Jay out of anger. Jay is furious and swears revenge. Carly, upset over the betrayal, leaves the club and is nearly hit by a car before Tomas pulls her out of the way. Tomas then takes Carly back to his apartment where they dance on the roof, eventually kissing. Carly then leaves him alone on the roof, while they both look at the sunrise and smile.

The next day at the school, Carly announces the new name of their dance crew: Breakin Point. Another teacher at the school, outraged that her students are being corrupted, deliberately plans a Royal  Ballet audition for the same day as the street dance finals. The ballet dancers promise Carly they will make it, but the auditions were running overtime.

In an attempt to give Breakin Point more time to wait for the ballet dancers, Carly’s friend Eddie  goes out onto the dance floor and starts dancing, surprising the crew and wowing the audience. The ballet team turn up at the final anyway, and their teacher Helena drives the Royal Ballet judges to the streetdancing final so they can see the dancers perform. The routine is a success, Carly and Tomas kiss during the performance, and the crowd is enthralled. Jay is furious that The Surge have been beaten and he’s lost Carly.
